Variable Capacity Heat Pump

 ◦   Variable Capacity Heat Pumps are the most efficient heat pumps offered by several manufactures. The concept behind using a variable heat pump is very good because the variable capacity heat pump can run at only the capacity required. The variable capacity heat pump has the capability to run slower than fixed capacity heat pumps and consume less kW of electricity than fixed capacity heat pumps of the same size.

 ◦   A buildings Btu load during the year is very moderate and only runs at max load a few hours a year. The variable capacity heat pump can match these moderate condition very well and use less electricity than fixed capacity heat pumps. Under moderate building load conditions the variable capacity heat pump will run longer than fixed capacity heat pumps and will removes more moisture during the long run time.

 ◦   Variable capacity heat pumps use an inverter to run the dc compressor motor which makes the equipment must more complex and also more expensive compared to the fixed capacity heat pump. Some customers will want to own the best heat pump equipment available regardless if it is more complex with a higher initial cost.
